AIM The home aims to rehabilitate children, boys and girls, from 3 to 18 years old who are physically disabled and others with cerebral palsy, in order to make them self-supporting and more integrated in the society. They remain at the Home for the period necessary for their treatment and rehabilitation. ACTIVITIES The Home offers an appropriate physical, occupational therapeutic treatment for the need of each child. Specialists, orthopaedic surgeons from Italy, G.O.A. Genoa- Orthopaedic for Africa, come twice a year to examine the children and surgical treatment is given whenever necessary. The home is open to meet other problems with an electrotherapy department. The Home has a workshop which provides: boots, callipers, crutches, walking aids, cerebral palsy seats, prosthesis BK, corsets and splints which are made by well trained Orthopaedic Technologist, shoemakers and a technologist. During the residence at the home the children attend nearby government public schools in order to integrate with other children. After school the Home offers the children some activities according to their capability. Some teachers come come during the holiday for extra tuition for the children. This enhance their grades at school and it makes the children feel wanted in the society for they have the same competition ground. Sports and games are encouraged, they also do daily gymnastic and studies. The Home can accommodate 90 children. Special efforts are done to involve parents in the education and rehabilitation of their children and to make them more aware of their real needs. The Home offers visiting days, where the parents are encouraged to attend, spending time together with their children. During the holiday parents come and take them home for holiday vacation. Naro Moru Disabled Children’s Home Rehabilitation Centre has given a lot of hope to children all over the Country. Children fall under the category of the vulnerable group of the population and the Home is a clear manifestation of the fact that “disability is not inability”. |
